C O U R S E A N N O U N C E M E N T BASARC SEARCH MANAGEMENT TRAINING: SECTION CHIEF MANAGEMENT COURSE 2009 The Bay Area Search and Rescue Council (BASARC) is sponsoring: BASARC Section Chief Management Course This course is designed to teach hands on and theoretical skills in search management at the Section Chief level in Planning, Operations and Logistics functions. The content of the class is similar to, but does not replace the State OES Direction and Control of the Search Function, which is primarily focused on training Incident Commanders (IC’s). The course follows the four phases of a search: hasty, 1st operational, multiple operations, and the find/suspension periods. To prepare for the challenges faced on every search the students will learn through lectures, hand outs, discussions, as will as getting their hands dirty in the paper work through a multi phase tabletop map exercises to hone the skills. The cadre of instructors bring hundreds of hours of search and search management experience. Upon completion of the Course the student will receive a handbook and certificate. Additionally students will be afforded the opportunity to obtain the National Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR) Managing the Lost Person Incident (MLPI Certification. When: Saturday, February 7, 8 AM to 5 PM Sunday, February 8, 8 AM to 5 PM Saturday, February 14, 8 AM to 5 PM Sunday, February 15, 8 AM to 5 PM Where: Alameda County EOC 4985 Broder Ave. Dublin, CA 94568 Prerequisites: The students must: - Have completed ICS 100 or equivalent - Be a full member in good standing of a recognized search and rescue team or resource for a minimum of 2 years - Have the recommendation of their team’s or organization’s Management Staff. To Register: Because of the limited amount of space in the course and to be fair to all teams in the Bay Area, the course will be limited to 2 students from each team. Please submit your name to your unit Management Staff. The Unit Management Staff will be asked to select 2 candidates and 2 alternates names and forward their list to Chris Young (cyoung@swinerton.com) by January 30. After January 30, if space is still available the alternate names will be added to the course. Cost $20.00 per attendee.
