The Bay Area Search and Rescue Council (BASARC) is sponsoring:


BASARC Management/Managing the Lost Person Incident Course


This course is designed to teach hands on and theoretical skills in search management in Planning, Operations and Logistics functions. The instructor cadre bring hundreds of hours of search and search management experience. The content of the class is similar to, but does not replace the Cal OES Direction and Control of the Search Function, which is primarily focused on training Incident Commanders (IC’s). The course will follow the four phases of a search: hasty, 1st operational, multiple operations, and the find/suspension periods. To prepare for the challenges faced on every search the students will learn through lectures, handouts, discussions, as will as getting their hands dirty in the paper work through a multi-phase tabletop map exercises to hone their skills. Upon completion of the Course the student will take the National Association for Search and Rescue (NASAR) Managing the Lost Person Incident (MLPI) exam and receive Certification and completion certificate

Prerequisites:         NOTE: The prerequisites have changed this year:


-       Have completed ICS 100 200 and 700 or equivalent and provide verification

-       Be a full member in good standing of a recognized search and rescue team or resource

-       A minimum of 2-3 years SAR

-       Have the recommendation of their team’s or organization’s Management Staff.


To Register:           NOTE: A new Application Process was established last year, so please read carefully. Because of the limited amount of space available for the course and to be fair to all teams and organizations in the Bay Area, the course will be limited to 1 student from each team and 1 alternate. Candidates must fill out the attached application to be submitted to unit Management Staff. The Unit Management Staff will be asked to select 1 candidate and 1 alternate name and forward their list and completed application to Chris Young ( by February 1, 2015. After February 1st, if space is still available the alternate names will be added to the course.


Cost                     $TBD per attendee. Covers field handbook, the NASAR MLPI Certification, miscellaneous paperwork and morning refreshments (Note the NASAR MLPI Certification fee is included). The text book will be a separate cost.
